The Heavy Lifting Behind “Seamless” IT: Getting Move-In Ready

When people think of IT support and networking, they usually picture tidy server racks, glowing blue LEDs, clean patch cabling, and clever software configurations.
What they don’t usually picture is wrestling a 2-metre-tall, 42U steel comms cabinet up stairwells and through tight landings before anyone else has even unpacked a moving box!

Today was definitely one of those “earn your brew” days.

Laying the Groundwork for Day One

Moving office is stressful enough for any business. The last thing a team needs on Move-In Day is arriving at their shiny new workspace only to wait around for internet circuits, network drops, or hardware setups.
Our job is to make sure that on day one, staff can literally plug in, log on, and get straight to business without skipping a beat. But making IT look that effortless takes some serious prep behind the scenes.

Today’s mission:
● The Transit & Placement: Hauling and maneuvering a full-height 42U rack right where it needs to be (and getting a solid leg workout in the process!).
● Prepping for the Line: Getting the rack assembled, levelled, and prepped so the broadband engineers can drop the fibre connection directly into a clean, purpose-built housing.
● Setting the Stage for Move-In: Having cable routes and rack space ready to mount switches, firewalls, and server equipment the moment the client turns the key.

Out of the Stairwell, Into Position

Getting a cabinet of this size into position isn’t always a simple glide into an elevator! But with a bit of patience, careful maneuvering around the stairwell, and proper planning, it’s now proudly sitting in its new home, ready for the business end of the install.

Ceiling tiles are popped, containment is mapped, and the foundation is laid. Next stop: broadband termination and racking up the hardware!
