Upgrading Office Connectivity: Better Wi-Fi & Rock-Solid Cordless VoIP

Every business reaches a tipping point where flaky Wi-Fi and crackly cordless calls stop being minor annoyances and start actively getting in the way of getting things done. We recently tackled an infrastructure upgrade designed to solve exactly that: pulling fresh data cabling to deploy dedicated wireless access points and high-mounted Yealink DECT cordless VoIP base stations.

Here is a quick look behind the install and why getting the cabling right makes all the difference.

Why Wireless Still Relies on Great Wires

It sounds counter-intuitive, but the secret to brilliant wireless—whether that is high-speed Wi-Fi or interference-free cordless phones—is solid physical cabling.

Relying on mesh extenders or tucking phone bases behind metal filing cabinets downstairs usually leads to dropped calls, dead zones, and daily frustration. To give the hardware the best shot at broad coverage, you need dedicated network drops right where the equipment performs best: high up and centrally located.

The Deployment

  • High-Level Placement: We routed new data runs directly above door frames and ceiling lines. Mounting access points and DECT stations up high keeps line-of-sight clear across corridors and partitions, cutting through physical obstructions that chew up signal strength.
  • Surface Trunking & Neat Terminations: Using clean, low-profile mini-trunking and dedicated surface back boxes kept the run tidy, fully protected, and easy to service without ripping apart existing walls.

  • Power over Ethernet (PoE): Everything is powered directly through the network cable back to the main switch. That means zero messy plug adapters dangling down walls, less clutter, and centralised power backup if the mains flickers.

  • Dedicated Yealink DECT Base: The cordless handsets now talk directly to a dedicated wall-mounted Yealink IP DECT base station. Handsets can roam seamlessly between rooms without jitter, call dropouts, or voice lag.
  • Seamless Wi-Fi Coverage: The paired business-grade Wi-Fi access point provides consistent, uninterrupted data throughout the area, letting laptops and mobile devices move freely without buffering.

Getting data cabling right might happen behind the scenes, but the difference is felt instantly: crisp, crystal-clear VoIP calls and Wi-Fi that simply works the second you walk into the room.
